The Client

Prairie Woods is a small Christmas tree farm outside of Crete, Nebraska ran by Les & Judi Korte. Their vision started by the wish to provide their family members with fresh live Christmas trees every year. Today, they get to share their vision with other families besides their own. With Les’s agronomist experience and Judi’s master gardener status, these two were set up for success.

The Need

Their website at the time was outdated and hard for people to find their contact info. They did have a better-looking website than most of their competitors but they had numerous issues with people getting the wrong open times or address. They didn’t have a way to communicate with their customers. Considering the travel time some of them had to commit to, this was a big problem. They also had a goal to increase their sales to better cover the cost of growing the trees.

The Solution

Our top priority was making sure hours, location, and contact info could be found on every page of the site. In addition, we got them set up with a Facebook page and add them to Google maps.

Our second priority was drawing more people in. To accomplish this we set out to communicate and show the experiences and feelings you get at Prairie Woods online. We wanted a sense of awe and excitement when you came to the page. We aimed for Prairie Woods to look like a magical place. Similar to if you stepped through the wardrobe into Narnia. 

We started off with a new tagline. “Christmas grows here” Not only does this hint to the live trees but also the family tradition of Christmas tree shopping. Through the website, we built an emphasis on the tradition of picking out a family Christmas tree. We found many of Prairie Woods customers were there because they’d see the joy their kids had while they picked out their special tree. 

The website was also easy to update and manage because it was built on WordPress. This allowed them to easily communicate important information to their customers via the website. It also gave them a place to direct customers to for additional information such as tree care facts.


The Results 

The website has become a huge tool for Prairie Woods. The first year after the redesign they had a spike in web traffic and ended up selling out trees within 2 weekends. They were blown away by the traffic they received. 

We are currently in the second year after the redesign and we have over doubled their web traffic. We are so excited to have created a website that solved their customers’ problems as well as generated more traffic and sales for Prairie Woods.
